We realised 16 years ago that some patients leave hospital not knowing how best to look after themselves during the recovery period, and that this can represent a risk for hospitals: if patients hurt themselves the hospital could be liable to re-treat the patient, perhaps for a more complicated injury than the first, and if the patient was not given advice and information on self help after their discharge there is the potential for an action for negligence.
 
The solution was to produce Injury Advice Cards, which are given to each patient and relevant to their injury or condition – our library now extends to over 500 different injuries or conditions and can be produced in most languages.
 
We supply more than 3,000,000 of these each year, and they are universally recognised as helping to manage clinical risk and appreciated by clinicians and nursing staff across the UK.
 
We also publish medical manuals for doctors and nursing staff, tailored to individual hospitals, and reflecting their guidelines.   

BOE is a commercial publishing company and while making a small profit each year we have been able to put over £7,000,000 worth of literature back into hospitals Free of charge.
